1 UTILITY WORKER DIED AFTER HE WAS ELECTROCUTED ON MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA

An subcontractor working for Florida Power and Light was electrocuted on the 3200 block of South Tropical Trail in Merritt Island. Chris Bonanno. 3-10-15.

Brevard County Fire Rescue first responded around 2:50 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.

Update, 1:50 p.m. Wednesday:

The identity of the victim of Tuesday's electrocution on Merritt Island has still not been released.

Brevard County Fire Rescue told FLORIDA TODAY that the employee worked for MasTec, a subcontractor for Florida Power & Light. They were from Ocala.

Update, 7:40 p.m. Tuesday:

A subcontractor working for Florida Power and Light was electrocuted just before 3 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon on the 3200 block of South Tropical Trail on Merritt Island, according to Brevard County Fire Rescue District Chief Darron Murray.

Murray added that the worker was on scene replacing electrical poles and that the victim was in a "bucket" working when he was electrocuted.

When Brevard County Fire Rescue workers had arrived on scene, co-workers had removed him from the bucket and had attempted to resuscitate him. The victim, who has yet to be identified, was pronounced dead on scene.

The power to neighborhood residents was restored about 5 p.m.
