Maryland State Police have identified the man who died in a
fiery crash on Route 50 Sunday morning as Kenneth Earl Pettigrew of Silver
Spring.
The crash occurred at about 2:30 a.m. on westbound Route 50
at Route 424 in Davidsonville.
When Anne Arundel County firefighters arrived at the scene
they found Pettigrew's 2002 Acura RL on fire and Pettigrew trapped
inside.
The Acura had run into the back of a tractor-trailer,
police said, then exited the roadway, hit a concrete barrier and caught
fire.
Pettigrew sustained burns to his entire body
and was pronounced dead at the scene, said county firefighter paramedic Eric
Hammack said. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
No additional information was available early Sunday
afternoon. An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
