KENTUCKY SCHOOL BUS, SEMI-TRUCK AND POLICE CAR CRASH SENDS 19 STUDENTS, BUS DRIVER TO HOSPITALS

LOUISVILLE,
Ky. —Twenty children and a bus driver were taken to area hospitals after an
accident involving a Jefferson County Public Schools, a tractor-trailer and a
police vehicle.
The
crash happened around 8:15 a.m. at Cane Run Road and Clarinet Drive. According
to police, the semi rear-ended JCPS bus No. 0842, which had 36 students on
board. The bus rear-ended an unmarked Shively police car.
All 20 students and a bus
driver were released from hospitals by early Friday afternoon.Charlie Sailing runs a business across the street from where the crash occurred. He was in the back of his store when he heard the crash.
"(I was) getting some coffee, and come back out front and I hear a big bang, and I looked out front and, like I said, one police car in front, and a school bus in the middle and a semi in the back crashed," Sailing said.
The tractor-trailer suffered extensive damage.
"Police car looks like it got hit in the back pretty good, too, so it's a very bad accident," Sailing said.
Five students were taken to Sts. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital and 15 were taken to Kosair Children's Hospital. The driver of the bus was also taken to Sts. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital. They were all released by early afternoon.
The students who were not injured were loaded onto another bus and taken to school.
The aunt of two students on the bus said her nieces were fine, but after seeing the damage, she can't believe there were no serious injuries.
"Someone could have been killed, that's how bad it is. And when I (saw) it I immediately thought about somebody being seriously hurt. I really did, but I thank God that everyone is alright, and I will continue to pray for the rest of the families and the children that were hurt," said Debra Gray.
The other drivers were not injured.
