SPOKANE, WASHINGTON
A piece of wire caused a hiccup in operations at the
Thermoguard Insulation facility Feb. 18 at 125 N. Dyer Road.
Spokane Valley Fire Department crews were called to the
building at 3:47 p.m. after problems with some equipment sparked a fire. “There
was a piece of wire that got tangled up in the gear, which led to sparking,
which led to flames and fire,” said Assistant Fire Marshal Bill Clifford.
The fire wasn’t large and only caused about $1,000 in
damage, despite the smoke that filled the building, Clifford said.
Other calls from Feb. 9-22:
Feb. 11: An overloaded electrical circuit sparked a fire in
a detached garage in the 19000 block of East Boone Avenue. The flames were
contained to the garage and caused about $10,000 in damage.
Feb. 14: Homeowners in the 18400 block of East Dalton Avenue
reported a possible natural gas leak and a water heater leak. Crews could find
no gas leak and determined the hissing noise was caused by water spraying from
the broken water heater.
Feb. 20: Crews were called to a brush fire in the 13800 block
of East Bellessa Lane. Construction crews building a new home had set some
construction debris on fire.
Feb. 21: A pepper spray discharge was reported in the
electronics section of a thrift store around 3:15 p.m. at 11920 E. Sprague Ave.
Crews responded and cleaned up the pepper spray.
By the numbers: Firefighters were called to 563 calls from
Feb. 9-22, including 454 emergency medical services calls. Other calls included
several illegal yard waste fires, 40 car crashes, four children accidentally
locked inside parked cars, three car fires and one child accidentally locked
inside a bedroom.
