February 3, 2015

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Officials confirm that one person was killed after Chesterfield school bus and car collided Tuesday morning.

Officials tell us that 26-year-old Noel R. Santos, the driver of the car that ran into the bus, was pronounced dead at the scene. Santos, of the 1300 block of Creekglen Lane, was the car’s only occupant.

No one on the bus was injured.

Police said the car collided with the bus about 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of Old Hundred Road and Creekpointe Circle in the Midlothian area of Chesterfield County. Old Hundred Road is currently closed from Watermill Parkway to Otterdale Road.

Four kids were on the bus which was heading to the Center-Base gifted program at Greenfield Elementary. They were not hurt and will be heading to school shortly.

V-dot has done two studies in the area in the last two years to see if it’s safe and as a result, they’ve added more signs for drivers approaching around the curve.

The department has kept the speed limit at 45 miles per hour.

There was one other crash similar to this one where someone pulled out into oncoming traffic, but that was not fatal.

After this tragedy, everyone is trying to support Santos’ now widow and three kids.

“It’s sad to see these kids are going to have no father,” said a neighbor of Santos.

His co-workers at Wells Fargo are even there to support the family. The bank issued a statement saying, ”We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Noel. He has been part of the Wells Fargo family since 2010 and will be missed tremendously. We offer our sincere condolences to his wife, children and family.”

Right now, the family is making final funeral arrangements.
