FEBRUARY 17, 2015

KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV)

A driver was killed while hauling a load of plywood in KCK Tuesday morning.

The wreck happened about 8:30 a.m. on Kaw Drive at 78th Street. The streets were wet and the temperature was below freezing.

The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. They say the driver tried to stop on Kaw Drive heading west, but the load of plywood shifted, crushing the cab. Authorities are investigating whether another vehicle cut the man off, causing him to stop suddenly or slide.

Troopers say they must get into the cab to look for paperwork but are waiting to remove the plywood.

No identity has been released on the victim or what company he worked for.

Troopers stressed load securement, making sure loads are secure and tight.

The westbound lanes of Kaw Drive will be closed for about an hour as officers continue taking evidence.
