KANKOOL, AUSTRALIA
Cranes arrived on-site to begin the clean up at Kankool
today, following yesterday’s coal train derailment.
19 wagons left the tracks in the accident near Willow Tree,
with Australian Rail Track investigators yet to establish the cause.
Initial inspections suggest the line will be closed until
Friday, in the meantime passengers on XPLORER train services from Armidale and
Moree will use replacement buses.

Heavy cranes will arrive at the site of a train derailment
at Kankool today.
The Rail Safety Regulator has examined the site, and handed
the job back to the Australian Rail Track Corporation.
The rear section of the train is expected to be moved this
morning.
Motorists have been asked to take special care if they're
driving past the scene, after a number of near misses involving people stopping
to get a better look.
The derailment happened early on Sunday morning when the
empty coal train derailed between Ardglen and Willow Tree.
19 of the train’s 82 wagons ran off the tracks.
Liverpool Plains Shire Council hopes the track will be
reopened on Friday
