UPDATE: 

A man and woman died after being pulled from a third-alarm house fire in Elizabeth late Sunday. 


The fire broke out inside the Fairmount Avenue home just before 6 p.m.

With heavy flames shooting through the roof, firefighters pulled out the two residents, who were rushed to Trinitas Hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries.


 Two firefighters were treated at the hospital for injuries.

One firefighter's turnout gear was burned while attempting the rescue.

Neither of the injuries were life threatening.

Firefighters were hampered by weather conditions, but they were able to contain the flames to one house.

One person died and another was critically injured in a fire Sunday at a two-story building in New Jersey, authorities said.

Flames were shooting from the attic of the structure on Fairmount Avenue in Elizabeth at about 6 p.m. when firefighters arrived.

Neighbors said the victims were a man and his hearing-impaired daughter who lived on the second floor of the building.

"It started in the second level and I knew it was going to go up to attic because it was sparking up and everything," neighbor Alden Daniel said.

The names of the victims were not disclosed. Officials have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
