TRUCK DRIVER CITED FOR OPERATING WITHOUT REASONABLE CONTROL IN CRASH ONTO TROOPERS’ VEHICLE THAT CLOSED NB I-71

CINCINNATI, OHIO

Deputy Nicholas Price, 27, was pulled over on the left side of northbound I-71 tending to a single-car crash near Fields Ertel Road, the release states.

While waiting for the Ohio State Highway Patrol to respond, a tractor-trailer operated by William Gavey, 59, struck the rear of his cruiser, the release states.

Gavey was cited for operating without reasonable control. He allegedly lost control of his vehicle, striking a concrete barrier and the deputy's cruiser.

Ohio law requires drivers approaching stationary emergency vehicles with flashing lights to move over from the lane closest to the emergency vehicle, according to Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Neil.

"I'd ask that drivers be especially cautious when we're experiencing icy conditions on the roadways," Neil said. "For the safety of the citizens driving, as well as our deputies and all law enforcement officers, slow down, be alert and be extra careful when you see flashing lights."

No one was injured in either crash, officials said.

Driver cited in crash that closed NB I-71
A semi truck crashed into a Hamilton County Sheriff's Deputy's vehicle Tuesday morning, shutting down northbound Interstate 71 for about three hours during rush-hour.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was going too fast for the slick road conditions, according to a news release from the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office. No one was injured in the crash.
Up to 3.5 inches of snow were recorded in Warren County, but the most in Hamilton County was 1 inch, according to the National Weather Service. The crash in Symmes Township happened near the border of Hamilton and Warren counties.
Even that amount of snow snarled Tuesday's morning commute throughout the region. There were at least three other crashes involving a tractor-trailer, and one other involving a state or county vehicle.
