TRUCK CRASHES INTO HOUSE IN UPPERCO, MARYLAND. 2 PEOPLE TRAPPED IN CRASH FLOWN TO HOSPITAL

UPPERCO, Md. —Two people were flown to Shock Trauma Thursday
morning after a collision sent a truck crashing into a house in Upperco,
Baltimore County police said.
Police said the truck went about 15 feet into a vacant house
in the 15400 block of Hanover Pike shortly after 10 a.m.
Officials said the truck was traveling north on Hanover Pike
and a Honda Prelude was traveling south when the two vehicles collided. Each
driver was trapped and had to be rescued, officials said. The chain of events
is unclear at this early stage of the investigation.
"The drivers of both vehicles were trapped and fire
(officials) called for heavy rescue assignment at 10:14. That brought out the
equipment that we needed to free these people from the vehicles," police
spokeswoman Elise Armacost said.
Two people were flown to Shock Trauma. They were each listed
in serious condition, although their injuries were not life-threatening,
officials said.
Baltimore County fire and police officials shut down Hanover
Pike in both directions in the area of Emory Road for hours.
Crash investigators and building inspectors were called to
the scene. The Baltimore County Fire Department Urban Search and Rescue Team
was also called to shore up the house.
"They're there to try to shore up that house to protect
against collapse that could be dangerous to the responders or anyone
around," Armacost said.
A hazardous materials team removed fuel from the truck in
order to safely remove it from the scene.
