Husky Energy output cut after Ohio refinery fire
The blaze started at the155,000 barrel per day Ohio refinery’s isocracker unit and caused significant damage before being extinguished Sunday morning, Reuters said.
“It’s going to be a long time for that (isocracker) to ramp up again,” Lima fire department spokesman Matt Bridges said.
Bridges added that the unit’s reactors were not damaged but the pumps and compressors are “gone.”
The affected unit was being restarted after being shutdown for maintenance when the fire began.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
The site is secured and damage was limited to the isocracker unit.
All personnel are accounted for and no injuries were reported.
Husky said it is too early to determine the fire’s impact on output.
“As a precaution, other facilities and units at the refinery were shut down and production is expected to be suspended for about one week,” Alberta-based Husky said.
The refinery can operate without the 26,000 bpd isocracker unit.
Customers will continue to be supplied with products throughout the shutdown, Husky said.
