EMPLOYEE BURNED IN FARMINGTON HILLS, MICHIGAN CONCRETE PLANT DIES

January 16, 2015
A southeast Michigan man has died of severe burns from a fire at a concrete plant where he was working.

Thirty-seven-year-old Greg Messenger of Temperance died Thursday night at Detroit Medical Center.

His sister-in-law, Julie Messenger, says the hospital did everything it could for him.

Greg Messenger was burned on his arms, hands and face when he was trapped in the fire Jan. 8 in a large storage tower at Piedmont Concrete in Farmington Hills.

"We are very saddened by his death, especially the firefighters who went in and got him," said Farmington Hills Fire Chief Corey Bartsch. "His family and friends did have a chance to say goodbye to him."

Six others injured in the fire have recovered.

The fire remains under investigation and a cause has not yet been determined, Bartsch said.

The owner of Piedmont Concrete says the tower was being restored.
