BOX TRUCK DAMAGES
A HOME’S GARAGE NEAR POTTSTOWN, PA. THE
TRUCK SIDESWIPED A CAR, THEN CAREENED OUT OF CONTROL AND LEFT A HOLE IN THE
HOUSE.
NEW HANOVER TWP., Pa. - It was a close call in
Montgomery County when a truck barreled into a home and left a major hole in
its garage. "The more I look out there I get sick," said Gail
Agresta, who was shaken by the sight of her home. Agresta was thankful she woke
up early Wednesday and decided to head into the office.
"If I work from home I usually sit right here at
the dining room table, and I probably would have had a heart attack," said
Agresta.
An American flag sat atop the rubble where part of the
home came crumbling down around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
A box truck lost control and slammed into the garage in
the 2500 block of North Charlotte Street in New Hanover Township, said police.
"I'm glad nobody was hurt, but this is not a good way to start off the new
year," said Agresta.
A Nissan was trying to make a turn on Moyer Road when
the truck swerved to go around it. The truck sideswiped the car, then careened
out of control and left a hole in the house, said police. The owners said they
just finished construction to update a breezeway leading to the garage. Now,
they're scared to open the door to the garage fearing it will collapse.
"You got to be careful because there is a lot of weight up there and it is
the corner of a building," said Ralph Agresta, who got a call from this
neighbor about the accident. Neighbors along the block heard the blast.
Now, they're demanding change at the dangerous
intersection. "Something needs to be done with the intersection,"
said Sharon Cappelletti, who lives across the street from the accident scene.
"I mean, we need a flashing light, stop sign or lower the speed limit."
Cappelletti contacted police and PennDOT following the
crash. She said someone was already killed, and accidents happen there all the
time. "We take our life into our hands every time we come down Charlotte
to turn on Moyer and into our driveway," said Agresta. No one was injured.
Police said charges are pending.
