A
worker fell down an elevator shaft at a Port Jefferson Village condo
construction site Wednesday, Suffolk County police said.
The
victim suffered a head injury and was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital
after falling about 2 p.m. at the Liberty Avenue worksite, police said.
Sixth
Precinct detectives remained at the scene late in the afternoon, police said.

A building worker was rushed to the hospital early Thursday after he apparently fell down an elevator shaft on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
FDNY and EMS responded to 10 Columbus Circle around 6:15 a.m. and found the victim in the basement.
The victim a 45-year-old male, fell about 25 feet. He is expected to survive.
The worker was removed to New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in serious condition.

Worker Falls Down Midtown Elevator Shaft, FDNY Says
MIDTOWN — An elevator worker plummeted two stories down
an elevator shaft at a Uniqlo store early Thursday evening, officials
said.
The 36-year-old man survived the fall at 666 Fifth Ave. at around 5:45 p.m., FDNY officials said.
Witnesses said they saw the man fall from the store's second floor.
"He wasn't bleeding, but he was unconcious," said Leon Zaid, 34, whose hot dog cart is directly in front of the building. "I was freaking out — I thought he was in a coma."
Rescue workers were on the scene shortly before 6 p.m., officials said. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital to be treated for neck and back pain.
The building is the former home of DC Comics and now house to numerous law offices, along with Hollister and Uniqlo clothing stores.
The building's owner, the Kushner Companies, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Authorities are investigating how a 28-year-old construction worker
fell to his death in an elevator shaft inside a Gramatan Avenue
building.
The Westchester Medical Examiner's Office on Thursday hadn't yet identified the victim, but said he suffered blunt force injuries and skeletal fractures as a result of the Wednesday evening fall. He was part of a crew apparently doing unauthorized work on the roof of 6 Gramatan Ave., city officials said.
The worker, who officials said was from New York City, was putting away his tools when he broke through a screen covering the shaft. In a statement Thursday, Mayor Ernie Davis said the man tumbled several stories, landing on the elevator car. Co-workers had brought the man to the roof by the time paramedics arrived. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The city said it had issued a permit to Global General Construction Inc. for masonry repairs on the building's facade. A preliminary investigation showed the roof work to be outside the permit's activities, Davis said.
A message left at a Bronx office for Global wasn't returned Thursday evening.
The five-story building it near City Hall and the Police Department headquarters. According to an online real estate listing, it houses a law office, Planned Parenthood and a McDonald's restaurant, among other entities, and contains three elevators.
The city issued a stop-work order after the accident until investigations by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and city police can be completed.

contractor working on an elevator in Queens fell five stories to his
death Thursday morning when his harness apparently malfunctioned and he
plummeted down the shaft, law enforcement sources tell NBC 4 New York.
The
harness apparently malfunctioned as the 45-year-old man was working on
the elevator from the fifth floor of what will become a new school on
42nd Street in Sunnyside. A man in his 30s working from the fourth floor
was hit by debris as his colleague fell, but his harness held, law
enforcement sources say.
Both
men were taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where the older man was pronounced
dead. The younger man was listed in stable condition.
They work for an elevator contracting company.
