This is a very common occurrence for us who do construction
work in the older neighborhoods of Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey,
etc: many gas maps are not accurate and
quite a few of the older pipelines are not shown on the maps and they are not
marked by the gas companies. The end
result could be a disaster, as it became evident with the recent incidents in
Levittown, PA. There, the gas pipeline
was ruptured twice by the construction contractor in a period of two days; thank god there was no explosion as it would
have caused some very serious damage and injuries. This was a high pressure 1 ¼-inch pipeline.

A contractor working on the Route 13 construction project
Friday morning struck the same high pressure natural gas line that was ruptured
two days ago, prompting lane closures and business evacuations.
PECO Energy spokesman Ben Armstrong confirmed that the 1¼-inch
steel gas line was struck shortly before 7:30 a.m. and secured shortly after 8
a.m. PECO workers will remain onsite to make permanent repairs.

PECO crews were able to fix a natural gas leak in Bristol
Township on Wednesday.
PECO spokesperson Ben Armstrong said contractors working in the
area of Route 13 and the Lower Bucks County Joint Municipal Authority facility
struck a 1.25-inch high pressure natural gas line around 11:15 a.m. The strike
initially believed to be on a 4 inch main.
Crews were able to shut off service and work on repairs with no
major interruption in service, Armstrong said.
The contractors that hit the gas line were working in an area
that PECO crews reported did not have visible utility line markings. Armstrong
said anyone preparing to dig should call 8-1-1 before they do so.

Fire and PECO crews were called to a gas leak in the 7900 block
of Route 13 (Bristol Pike) late Wednesday morning.
A four-inch high pressure natural gas main was struck in the area of Route 13 and the Lower Bucks County Joint Municipal Authority facility in Bristol Township, PECO spokesperson Ben Armstrong said.
The main was struck by a contractor who was not working for
PECO, and the utility company was alerted around 11:15 a.m., Armstrong said.
The spokesman reported PECO crews arrived to the scene at noon
and currently assessing repairs. If it is determined the main needs to be shut
off, only one customer would be impact, Armstrong told LevittownNow.com.

Gas leak closes Sycamore Street for two hours

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP — A portion of Sycamore Street in Newtown
Township was closed for about two hours Wednesday morning while PECO workers
repaired a ruptured natural gas line on the Promenade construction site,
township police said.
The Promenade is the project replacing the Acme supermarket on
the site. Headed by Newtown Township businessman Jim Worthington, the project
will consist of the women's clothes and accessories store Anthropologie, two or
three other stores and 26 luxury apartments.

Gas leak in Doylestown Wednesday morning

Several downtown Doylestown buildings were evacuated Wednesday
morning after a brief gas leak on Shewell Avenue.
A PECO spokesman said that about 8:39 a contractor reported
striking a 1 inch plastic service line on Shewell Avenue near the firehouse.

Old Lincoln Highway closed until Friday for gas leak repair

BENSALEM — Part of Old Lincoln Highway will remain closed
through Friday morning while PECO crews work to repair a gas leak that started
Wednesday night.
Bensalem police and fire officials contacted PECO shortly
before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night to report a fire under the street and the
smell of gas, according to company spokeswoman.

BRISTOL TOWNSHIP — PECO crews fixed a gas leak Sunday in
the Croydon section of Bristol Township, a utility spokeswoman said Sunday
afternoon.
Repairs were performed to a gas main in the 1300 block of State
Road after crews were dispatched late Saturday night for a "possible gas
odor" in the area, PECO spokeswoman Liz Williamson said.

The line was accidentally hit as part of the road construction project.

A gas leak forced the closure of Boulder Street near
downtown Monday morning (12/8/14).
Westbound Boulder was closed at El Paso Street and eastbound
Boulder was closed at Farrs Court.
Boulder is now open in both directions.
