CONCORD, NH GAS MAIN BREAK PROMPTS PRESCHOOL EVACUATION

Concord, NH gas main break prompts preschool evacuation

A day care in Concord was briefly evacuated yesterday after a construction crew punctured a neighboring gas main.

John Shore, a spokesman for Liberty Utilities, said the accident occurred about 10 a.m. at 67 Old Loudon Road. The crew had been installing a private water system, he and Deputy City Manager Carlos Baia said. The children were evacuated and asked to stay outdoors for about 20 minutes, Shore said. No injuries were reported.

A utility repair crew was still on site at noon, and Shore expected their work to be completed by the day’s end.

“The leak was stopped very quickly,” Shore said.

Baia notified the mayor and city council of the incident via email. Calls to fire Chief Dan Andrus were not immediately returned.
