1 pilot killed in Cypress, Texas ultralight plane crash

JUNE 27, 2015

One man was killed when a glider crashed in the Cypress area just after 11 a.m. on Saturday.

"Some sort of unregistered, ultralight aircraft crashed in a field after apparently hitting some trees," Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Lynn Lunsford said.

An FAA inspector was en route to the site just before 1 p.m., said Lunsford, who is based in Fort Worth.

According to Thomas Gilliland, a spokesman with the Harris County Sheriff's Office, construction workers near Weiser Airpark, a private flight facility off U.S. 290 south of Telge, alerted authorities about a potential plane crash.

"Workers at the construction site said they saw an aircraft go down in the woods east of the runway," Gilliland said.

Dozens of People Injured in Tour Bus and Tow Truck Collision on Coquihalla Highway in Brookmere, B.C.

Approximately 35 people have been sent to nearby hospitals after a tour bus collided with a tow truck on the Coquihalla Highway on June 27, 2015.
Approximately 35 people have been sent to nearby hospitals after a tour bus collided with a tow truck on the Coquihalla Highway on June 27, 2015.
VANCOUVER — A serious multi-vehicle crash on the Coquihalla Highway near Exit 250 has led to major traffic delays.

The crash–which occurred just south of Brookmere, B.C., about 40 kilometres south of Merritt–involved a tour bus with Richmond-based Universal Coach Lines and a tow truck. Several people were ejected from the bus, according to reports.

In total, 38 people were sent to nearby hospitals, according to B.C. Emergency Health Services. They say two are in serious condition and were airlifted to hospitals in Kelowna and Kamloops. The rest were transported to hospitals in Kamloops, Merritt, Hope, Chilliwack and Kelowna.

Drive BC is reporting the Coquihalla is closed to northbound traffic at Exit 250, and southbound traffic is reduced to a single lane.

Barbara Cheng, owner of Universal Coach Lines, is heading to the scene and has confirmed to Global News her bus was involved in the crash.

Bus hit tow truck

According to witnesses, the accident happened when the bus struck a tow truck, which was assisting a small red car that hit and killed a deer.

“A deer ran into the road, and hit the red car,” said Jess Heer, who was driving northbound to Kamloops when he saw the original accident.

“The people in the car were fine. We pushed the car out of the way, moved it off of the road…we calmed everyone down and then left.”

Heer said even though they pushed the car to the shoulder, it wasn’t completely safe from oncoming traffic.

“They come up that hill pretty fast [and] on that highway the shoulder isn’t big enough for a full car,” he said.

“A lot of people were braking at the last minute, it is such a hazardous spot.”
The tow truck was owned by Mario’s Towing, a full service towing company based in Kelowna. They have told Global News that “management is currently dealing with the situation and will answer any questions on Monday.”

C.J. Hodgson said she was travelling southbound at around 10:30 a.m. when she passed the tour bus.

“The front third or so of the bus is either ripped off or smashed in. It’s wide open. You can see into the bus,” she said.

She said the hoods of a tow truck and a small car were smashed in and the air bags were inflated.

Hodgson said the bus appeared to have crashed into a highway railing and a handful of people were looking over it at the drop below. Another group of people were standing on the road.

“It’s scary, especially with the people looking over the edge,” said Hodgson. “It’s a big drop. If they’re looking for something other than their belongings, that’s scary.”

Last year, dozens of tour bus passengers were injured in a crash 30 kilometres south of Merritt.

Plumbing Contractor Killed At Golisano Children's Hospital in Rochester, NY When He Was Hit by Falling Pipe Fitting

Thursday, June 25th 2015
Rochester, NY

A plumbing contractor is dead following an accident at Golisano Children's Hospital.

It was initially reported that the contractor died after suffering a medical injury on Tuesday. It is now being reported that the worker died after being hit by a metal pipe fitting he was working on.

Two other contractors were working nearby and were not injured.

A hospital spokesperson said in a statement, "We are deeply saddened by this news, and our hearts go out to the worker’s family and colleagues."

A University of Rochester spokesperson said the contractor was struck while working in a mechanical room not accessible to hospital staff and patients.
OSHA will be investigating further.

The name of the contractor has not been released.

Fourth of July terror warning issued by FBI, Homeland Security

Federal authorities have warned local law enforcement officials across the country about a heightened concern involving possible terror attacks targeting the July 4th holiday, a U.S. law enforcement official said.

While there was no specific or credible threat of attack, the official said the intelligence bulletin prepared by the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI alerted local colleagues to the ongoing threats posed by the Islamic State and other homegrown extremists. The official was not authorized to comment publicly.

The bulletins are frequently issued in advance of major U.S. holidays out of an abundance of caution and concern that operatives may exploit the timing to generate greater attention.

The warning comes as federal investigators have worked to disrupt a number of Islamic State-inspired plots, including a planned assault earlier this month on police officers in Boston. In that case, authorities fatally shot Usaamah Rahim as he allegedly planned to attack police with military-style knives.

Also this month, a New York suspect in a Islamic State-related terror investigation was arrested after attacking an FBI agent with a kitchen knife during a search of his home.

Fareed Mumuni, 21, was charged with attempted murder, after he emerged as a suspect in alleged plots to use pressure-cooker explosives and knives to attack police.

In a statement Friday following attacks in Tunisia, France and Kuwait, DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson said local law enforcement was being encouraged to be "vigilant and prepared'' in preparation for July 4th celebrations.

"We will also adjust security measures, seen and unseen, as necessary to protect the American people,'' Johnson said. "We continue to encourage all Americans to attend public events and celebrate this country during this summer season, but always remain vigilant.''

The secretary also referred to last week's the deadly Charleston church shooting, saying that such "acts of mass violence will never divert, discourage or frighten us.''

"The alleged killer sought to divide us,'' Johnson said. "Instead, his actions appear to have had the opposite effect in South Carolina, where people of different races have come together to denounce the tragedy and mourn those killed.''

1 MOTORCYCLIST TRAVELING AT HIGH RATE OF SPEED GOT KILLED WHEN HE REAR-END A PARKED TRACTOR TRAILER IN JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY

JUNE 27, 2015

JERSEY CITY, NJ

A 23-year-old North Bergen man has died after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing into a parked tractor trailer in Jersey City last night, police confirmed.

The man, whose name has not yet been released by authorities, was in critical condition when he was taken to Jersey City Medical Center- Barnabas Health last night, where he underwent surgery, hospital spokesman Mark Rabson said.

According to an accident report, a witness told police he saw the accident from the parking lot of Mana Contemporary at 888 Newark Ave. and said the motorcyclist was traveling east at "a high rate of speed" when he ran into the rear of a tractor trailer parked on Newark Avenue.

He also said the man fell off his bike and landed in the westbound lane of traffic, police said. Another witness provided a similar account of the accident.

EMS who arrived at the scene found the man unconscious with an open chest injury, an "amputated right elbow" and a right pelvis injury, according to the report.

Witnesses pointed out to police the area where the man lost control of his motorcycle in the eastbound lane, which "displayed an extremely uneven pavement and resembled an area where possibly previous construction was completed," the report stated.

The truck is registered to a company in California, according to the accident report. Upon further investigation, no summonses were issued, police said.

This young man obviously had a death wish and was playing Russian roulette by high speed traveling in a very densely populated area.  He reached his final destination.  Hopefully other young people will learn from this tragedy and avoid these crazy stunts, if they want to live.
