16-year-old worker Davis Aldany Vasquez Garcia was killed after slabs of granite apparently came crashing down on him at Galaxy Granite & Cabinets in Palm River-Clair Mel, Florida



HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) - 


Authorities say a 16-year-old was killed after slabs of granite apparently came crashing down on him at a supplier in Palm River-Clair Mel.

The incident took place at Galaxy Granite & Cabinets, 1618 51st St S. at about 3:30 p.m. on New Year's Day.

Deputies responded to reports of a person down and found the teenager under multiple pieces of granite that appeared to have fallen on top of him, authorities said. His name was not released.

Authorities say the incident was work-related and no foul play is suspected. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been notified and an investigation is ongoing.

The national Occupational Health and Safety Administration is investigating the accidental death of a 16-year-old found crushed beneath pieces of granite.

On Jan. 1 at 3:30 p.m., Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies responded to Galaxy Granite & Cabinets at 1618 51st St. S. and found Davis Vasquez Garcia of Tampa, an employee at the business, dead. Deputies say it appears multiple pieces of granite fell on top of him.

No foul play is suspected.
