A plant nursery employee was killed Wednesday when a box truck hit her as it was backing up in East Moriches, Suffolk police said.

Julia Molina, 49, of Mastic Beach, New York who worked for Kurt Weiss Greenhouses, was struck about 11 a.m. by the truck as it was driven by a fellow employee on the north service road of Sunrise Highway by Chapman Boulevard, police said. The collision occurred next to property owned by the nursery, police said.

Molina, of Mastic, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The unidentified driver stayed at the scene, where police conducted a safety check of the truck, officials said.

Homicide detectives are investigating, police said, and the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration was also notified.

Officials at the nursery, based in Center Moriches, could not be reached Wednesday.

EAST MORICHES, NY — A woman was killed in a tragic industrial accident in East Moriches Wednesday, police said.

Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating an incident during which an employee was killed in an industrial accident at Kurt Weiss Greenhouses, Inc., located at North Service Rd. and Chapman Blvd., at 11 a.m., police said.

An employee was operating a box truck when he backed into Julia Molina, 49, of Mastic; she was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, police said.

The employee stayed at the scene and was uninjured; a safety check was conducted at the scene and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified, police said.
