Arizona man charged in fatal semi-truck crash

HUBBARD TOWNSHIP, OHIO — 


An Arizona man is facing several charges, including drunk driving, after he overturned his semi on Interstate 80 Monday evening, killing his passenger.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the crash occurred at 6:23 p.m. in the eastbound lane about 100 feet from the Pennsylvania border.

Ademayowa A. Saint, 46, of Glendale, Ariz., was driving a 2005 Freightliner when he went off the right side of the road, struck a ditch and several trees before jacknifing, a patrol report states. An unidentified female passenger in the sleeper berth — the portion of a semi between the driver’s cab and trailer — died in the crash. A report from the Trumbull County 911 Center states the woman was trapped inside for nearly two hours.

Saint was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and illegal drugs at the time of the crash, according to the patrol. Saint was expected to be taken to the Trumbull County Jail on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide, marijuana possession, open container and operating a commercial vehicle while under the influence. He had not been booked in as of 11:30 p.m. Monday. He was not injured.

The crash is still under investigation and the patrol is asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them at 330-898-2311. The patrol was assisted by the Eagle Joint Fire District, Hubbard Township Police and the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says it believes an Arizona man was driving drunk when his semi-tractor trailer crashed along Interstate 80 in Hubbard, killing a woman who troopers believe was his fiancee.

Troopers say Ademayowa A. Saint, 46, of Glendale, Arizona was driving toward Pennsylvania at around 6:30 p.m. Monday when his truck went off the road, struck a ditch, and several trees before jackknifing.

Authorities have not released the name of the woman who was in the sleeper berth of the truck, but believe she was Saint's fiancee. The woman died in the crash. Saint was not injured.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol Crash Reconstruction Unit investigated the accident.

According to troopers, Saint was under the influence of alcohol and illegal narcotics at the time of the crash.

Saint was booked into the Trumbull County Jail on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide, possession of marijuana, having an open container, and operating a commercial vehicle while under the influence.

He is expected to be appear for a video arraignment on the charges Tuesday.

Eastbound I-80 was down to one lane after the crash but has since re-opened.
