NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) -

The Nebraska State Patrol is confirming Ryan Ziel, 22, died at Union Pacific's Bailey Yards on Sept. 15th. Ziel was ran over by a fuel truck.

Patrol Spokesman, Cody Thomas, says Ziel was driving the fuel truck. As it was fueling, Ziel got out of the truck, and the truck ran over him. Thomas says they don't know why the truck was moving.

A North Platte man died in an incident at Bailey Yard on Saturday morning.

The incident happened around 9 a.m. on the grounds of the rail yard west of North Platte said Justin Jacobs, a spokesman with Union Pacific Railroad.

Jacobs said the identity of the man has not been released and the cause of death is still under investigation by the Lincoln County Sheriffs Office and Nebraska State Patrol.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the deceased," said Jacobs.

A 42-year-old North Platte man died in an incident at Bailey Yard on Saturday morning.


According to Justin Jacobs, a spokesman with Union Pacific Railroad, the incident occurred about 9 a.m. on the grounds of the rail-yard west of North Platte. The person involved worked for a contract company that UP uses, Jacobs said.


Chief Lincoln County Sheriff's deputy Roland Kramer confirmed the incident, saying the cause of death was still under investigation on Saturday, and that he expected to have more information about the incident at a later date. He did not release the name of the man.

Ryan Benjamin Ziel, 42, of North Platte, formerly of Colorado, died Sept. 15, 2018, in a work-related accident in North Platte.

Ryan was born on Nov. 19, 1975, to Reinhold and Twila (Zarbock) Ziel in Greeley, Colorado. He grew up on a dairy farm in Windsor, Colorado, and graduated from Windsor High School in 1994. He then went to work for Monfort Cattle Company as a parts manager before moving in 1999 to Broken Bow, where he raised his son and worked for Swift.

By 2005, Ryan moved to North Platte and worked as a subcontractor with the Union Pacific Railroad until his death.

On July 19, 2011, Ryan married Kimberly Dawn Soto in North Platte, where they made their home.

Ryan liked Harry Potter and loved Star Wars, Star Trek, Marvel and DC Comics, and going to the movies. He also loved racing video games as well as vaping and making his own vape juice. When he was younger, he was active in Boy Scouts and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Ryan was a good man who cared for his family and enjoyed making time to be with them.

Ryan was preceded in death by his cousin and best friend, Jeremy Hartshorn; and grandparents, Doris and William Zarbock and “Opa” Fred and “Oma” Gertrude Ziel.

He is survived by his wife, Kimberly; children, Alexander Ziel and Tasia Soto, all of North Platte; parents, Reinhold and Twila Ziel, of Windsor; sisters, Laura (Zach) Milke of Durango, Colorado, and Christina (Joey) Sutter of Severance, Colorado; brother, Shan (Kristy) Ziel of Westminster, Colorado; nieces, Avalon and Blythe; nephews, Vialiant and Erik; his many cousins, including Amy Fiedler and Sunday Landgraf, with whom he had a close bond; and other family.

Services will be at a later date in Colorado. Cremation was chosen. Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.
