DANBURY, Conn. -- Three people were rushed to the hospital after a small plane crashed following departure from an airport in southwest Connecticut on Sunday, CBS New York reports.

The Cessna 172S crashed after taking off from Danbury Municipal Airport at 10:25 a.m, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Two people are listed in critical condition, while a third person suffered minor injuries, James Gagliardo, a Danbury Fire Department spokesperson, told CBS affiliate WFSB-TV.

All three passengers were transported to Danbury Hospital.

Firefighters said a nearby dog park was evacuated and is expected to remain closed until the plane is retrieved from the crash site on Monday, WFSB-TV reports.

The FAA is investigating, and the National Transportation Safety Board will work to determine the cause of the crash.

Typically pilot error during takeoff or landing cause the crashes to the airplanes. Especially if the pilot is not familiar with the plane (this was a rental) and/or the weather conditions.

The owner of the Cessna is listed as
CESSNA 616DF LLC, 53 MIRY BROOK RD, DANBURY , CT, US.

Cessna 616df LLC is company incorporated in Delaware with identification number of 4154052. Registration address: LEWES, DE 19958.  The company only has one plane (the Cessna that crashed) under ownership.  The LLC was incorporated in 2006, the year that the Cessna was built.

DANBURY, CT -

Three men were hospitalized when a single-engine plane crashed Sunday upon taking off from Danbury Airport, officials say.

Fire officials tell News 12 that one person is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. Another person is in serious condition, and the third suffered minor injuries. All three were taken to Danbury Hospital, but the victim with the most serious injuries has since been transferred to Westchester Hospital.

Authorities say the initial 911 calls reporting the crash came in around 10:25 a.m.

The plane crashed on a hill near the airport property, behind the Danbury Dog Park. A deputy fire chief says that first responders had to beat their way through the brush on the hill to make it to the plane and get the victims out of the wreckage.

The men were flying in a four-passenger Cessna Skyhawk. They had rented the aircraft Sunday morning and were heading west, although authorities have not yet confirmed their exact destination.

The identities of those who were injured have not yet been released.

The Danbury Dog Park was closed following the crash. Officials say the dog park will remain closed until crews are able to remove the wreckage of the plane. Machinery was brought in Sunday afternoon to clear a path to the plane through the rough brush and terrain.

The FAA, NTSB and the airport administrator are investigating the cause of the crash. Officials say the plane had a full tank of gas.

DANBURY, Conn. — Three men were injured, one critically, after the small plane they had just rented crashed immediately after takeoff from Danbury Airport on Sunday morning.

The Cessna SkyHawk crashed into a hillside next to a city dog park just west of the airport's Runway 26 about 10:30 a.m., Danbury fire officials said.

The crash was seen from the airport tower, which called 911, as did several bystanders.

Firefighters cut their way through heavy brush to get to the plane and removed the three men. All were taken to Danbury Hospital. The one who sustained life-threatening injuries was expected to be transfered to Westchester Medical Center. Another man was in serious condition and the third suffered minor injuries and was in stable condition, said James Gagliardo, a spokesman for the Danbury Fire Department.

The men had rented the plane from a "fixed-base operator" at the airport. They have not been publicly identified. Gagliardo said the men were from the Danbury area but he did not know specifically where.

Investigators were expected on scene from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board to determine what caused the accident.
