SOUTHAMPTON, Long Island (WABC) --

Two young boys are recovering after a collision involving two boats off Long Island over the weekend.

The crash happened Sunday at about 9:50 p.m. in Moriches Bay off Southampton.

Southampton Town police said two vessels -- a 26-foot Boston Whaler and a 19-foot Monterey -- collided about a half mile off shore.

One of the people on the boat called 911 to get some help.

None of the seven people on the Boston Whaler was injured. On the Monterey, three of the five people aboard suffered minor injuries, including two 10-year-old boys. One of the boys was thrown from the boat and then flown to a nearby hospital.

Southampton Town police said there's no criminality in the crash, and it appears to be accidental.

The U.S. Coast Guard also assisted in the emergency response and investigation.

EASTPORT, NY – Southampton Town Police have released details on Sunday night's boat crash off Long Island that injured three people, two of them children.

According to police, a 911 call came in at 9:52 p.m. from a boater reporting that he was involved in an accident with another boat in Moriches Bay about a half-mile south of South Bay Avenue in Eastport.

A 26-foot Boston Whaler driven by 58-year-old Steven Hornstein, of Woodbury, collided with a 19-foot Monterey driven by 81-year-old Robert Giordano, of Eastport, police said.

Three of the four people on the Monterey were injured in the crash. One 10-year-old boy who was ejected from the boat was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital. Another 10-year-old boy and Giordano were transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Westhampton Beach Volunteer Ambulance. Police described all of the injuries as minor. No one on board the Boston Whaler was injured.

Southampton Town Police, Southampton Bay Constables and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to the crash scene. No criminal charges have been filed. The investigation is continuing.
