HEMPSTEAD, Texas - Four people were killed Wednesday in a two-car crash in Waller County.

According to investigators, around 12:50 a.m. the driver of a Chevy Impala was speeding along the freeway and slammed into the back of a Volkswagen forcing it off the road. The Volkswagen burst into flames killing all four people inside, officials said. The victims were not discovered until firefighters put out the flames, Investigators said.

The driver of the Impala was taken to a hospital. The driver's injuries were not immediately known.

Deputies will determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

All mainlanes of the freeway were closed as crews investigated and cleared the scene.

Texas has one of the worst traffic accident records due to the drinking and driving, the speeding and the drugs.  The wide-open highways also allow for speedsters to crash all over the state.  Messy Texas for sure.
