Construction worker, 18, injured after concrete stairs fell onto his leg during dismantling at the Union Garage at Towson University in Maryland

TOWSON, Md. (WBFF) -- Police say one person was injured after a stairwell collapsed at a Towson University parking garage.

The incident occurred at around 10:15 a.m. at the Union parking garage along Cross Campus Boulevard.

Police say workers were attempting to dismantle the stairs when they collapsed, falling onto a worker’s leg. The worker, 18, was taken to a local hospital with "non-life threatening" injuries.

"He is not a university employee. He is employed by one of the sub-contractors," Towson University spokesperson Ray Feldmann said. "We're going through and doing stairwell replacement. A lot of these parking garages are old and the stairwells need to be replaced on a fairly frequent basis."
