Abdelrahm Gadalla, of Franklin, New Jersey killed after his Honda Accord and a Honda CR-V collided in the inner roadway of NJ Tpke, while approaching interchange 8 in Cranbury

CRANBURY, New Jersey (WABC) --

One man was killed and another seriously injured in a two-car crash on the New Jersey Turnpike in Cranbury Thursday.

A Honda Accord and a Honda CR-V collided in the inner roadway, while approaching interchange 8, just after 5:40 a.m.

The impact sent the Accord into the guardrail, flipping the vehicle over.

The driver of the Accord, 22-year-old Abdelrahm Gadalla, of Franklin, New Jersey, was taken to a hospital in Trenton where he died a short time later.

His passenger, 22-year-old Akhil Uppuluri, of South Brunswick, New Jersey, was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the Accord was taken to Capital Health System-Fuld Campus in Trenton in unknown condition.

The driver of the CR-V has been identified as 80-year-old Robert Flavin, of Wilmington, North Carolina. He was not injured in the crash. A passenger in his vehicle was also not injured.

The southbound inner roadway was closed as police investigate what caused the crash.

No charges are expected.

CRANBURY, NJ - A 22-year-old man from the Franklin Park section of Franklin died Thursday after the vehicle he was driving on the New Jersey Turnpike impacted with another vehicle, struck a guardrail and overturned.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

State Police Lt. Ted Schafer said the accident occurred around 5:41 a.m. near mile marker 69.3 in Cranbury.

According to Schafer, Abdelrahm Gadalla was driving a silver Honda south on the highway when his vehicle impacted a vehicle driven by Robert Flavin, 80, of Wilmington, North Carolina.

Gadalla's vehicle then struck the guardrail and overturned, Schafer said.

Gadalla was killed in the crash. His passenger, Akhil Uppuluri, 22, of the Dayton section of South Brunswick, was seriously injured. Police did not have information on which hospital he was taken.

Schafer said Flavin was not injured.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
