Roofer Alberto Vivanco Dominguez died after a 20-foot fall from the roof of a two-story apartment building in Tippecanoe County, IN



WEST LAFAYETTE, IN— Thirty-three-year-old Alberto Dominguez died Thursday after a 20-foot fall from the roof of a two-story apartment building, Tippecanoe County Coroner Donna Avolt said.

Dominguez, who is from Mexico but was living in Indianapolis, was part of a roofing crew working at 34 Country Squire Court, Avolt said.

Deputies and medical help were called at 9:39 a.m., Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Sgt. Matthew Couch said in a news release.

The coroner was called at 9:48 a.m. Thursday, Avolt said, and Dominguez was pronounced dead at the scene, Couch said.

Dominguez was working for an Indianapolis-based roofing company. He was wearing his safety harness. However, the safety rope was not attached and had been removed from the harness, Couch said.

None of Dominguez's four co-workers saw the fall, Couch said.

Couch said Dominguez suffered head injuries, and Avolt said an autopsy is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — An Indianapolis man is dead after falling off the roof of a two-story apartment building in Tippecanoe County.

Thursday just before 9:40 a.m., the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office was called to 34 Country Squire Court for a man who had fallen off a roof.

Deputies found the victim, 34-year-old Alberto Vivanco Dominguez, who was pronounced dead at the scene. He suffered severe head trauma from the fall, which was between 17 and 18 feet.

Dominguez was working for an Indianapolis-based roofing company, contracted to replace the roof of the apartment building. He was working with four other employees, but no one witnessed the fall.

The sheriff’s office said Dominguez was wearing a safety harness, but the safety rope was not attached. It had been removed from the harness for unknown reasons.

The Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office has taken over the ongoing investigation.
