ANOTHER BACKOVER DEATH: Farm worker 62-year-old Angelina Mateo of Immokalee killed after getting run over by a backing tractor in a tomato field in Florida





MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. -- An Immokalee farm worker is dead after getting run over by a tractor Thursday.

Florida Highway Patrol says it happened at 3:25 p.m. Thursday on a tomato farm in the 40,700 block of Ballard Road, outside Myakka City.

Troopers say the tractor was backing down an aisle in a tomato field when the driver backed over a woman who was behind the tractor.

The victim has been identified as 62-year-old Angelina Mateo of Immokalee.
No charges are pending at this time.



The driver, 62-year-old Baltazar Lara, will not face charges.

An Immokalee woman died Thursday afternoon after being run over by a farm truck on a Manatee County tomato field.

The woman, identified as Angelina Mateo, 62, was walking down an aisle in a tomato field at 40700 Ballard Road in Myakka City, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The driver of a farm truck was backing down the same aisle and didn't see the woman behind him, an FHP report states. The farm truck continued backing into the aisle, and the truck struck Mateo.

She died at the scene, FHP reported.

The truck driver, also from Immokalee, will not face charges.
