Another roadway worker with Hawkeye Paving killed after his pickup truck was hit by a semi-truck on I-80 in Davenport, Iowa











DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - UPDATE: Davenport Police have released the name of the driver involved in Monday's deadly accident on I-80.
 
The driver killed in the accident has been identified as 54-year-old Jacklyn Ferguson from New Windsor, Il.

On Monday, April 3rd, 10:40 PM Davenport Police, Fire and EMS were sent to eastbound I-80 just east of the I-74 overpass in regards to a multi-vehicle crash. Officers found the accident involved two vehicles.

The initial investigation indicates a pickup being operated by Jacklyn Ferguson was doing maintenance work on the roadway. The pickup backed into the roadway and was hit by a semi.

Ferguson died as a result of the accident. The driver of the semi was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE: According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, I-80 eastbound has reopened to traffic as of 3 a.m. on Tuesday, April 4.

UPDATE: The driver of the pick-up truck has died following the accident.

According to Davenport Police, the pick-up was being operated by an employee of Hawkeye Paving, who was doing maintenance work on the roadway. The driver backed into the traveled portion of eastbound I-80 and was hit by the semi.


The driver of the pick-up suffered fatal injuries. The name of the driver is not being released at this time.

The driver of the semi was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Traffic Safety Unit of the Davenport Police Department is further investigating the crash.

ORIGINAL STORY: A stretch of I-80 eastbound in Davenport is shut down after an accident.

It happened near mile marker 298 around 10:45 p.m. on Monday, April 3. Police on scene tell TV-6 two vehicles were involved: a pick-up truck and a semi truck.

The drivers of both vehicles were injured and taken to the hospital. One of the drivers has life-threatening injuries.

Traffic is being diverted off I-80 eastbound onto I-74 eastbound. The on-ramp from I-74 to I-80 eastbound is also closed.

The Davenport Police Department was assisted on scene by Iowa State Patrol and the Scott County Sheriffs Department.

As of 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 4, the road remains closed. Police are on scene now working to reopen the road.
