Pedro Calderon, 26, and Rosanna Santos-Pimentel, 28, of New Jersey are charged with aggravated arson and insurance fraud after they torched a car in Jersey City and filed an insurance claim on it.

 Kearny couple charged with torching car in Jersey City, insurance fraud

A couple from Kearny has been charged with torching a car in Jersey City and filing an insurance claim on it.

Pedro Calderon, 26, and Rosanna Santos-Pimentel, 28, both of East Midland Avenue, are charged with aggravated arson and insurance fraud in connection to the Jan. 14, 2016, incident just before midnight, the criminal complaint states.

The man and woman are charged with putting other in risk of death or serious injury by driving the 2009 Honda Accord to St. Pauls and Lewis avenues and purposely setting it on fire. They are also charged with fraudulently filing for insurance money on the car based on theft/fire loss, the complaint says.

Calderon's bail was set at $50,000 cash or bond while Santos-Pimentel's was set at $35,000 cash or bond when they made their first appearance on the charges this afternoon in Central Judicial Processing court in Jersey City via video link from Hudson County jail in Kearny. The prosecutor said probable cause for the charges includes security video and phone records.
