One construction worker with Thompson Grading burried alive and died when an unshored and dry trench collapsed in Carroll County, Georgia

Carroll County, Georgia

A man stuck in a trench in Carroll County has died, according to Carroll County Fire Rescue.

The victim worked for Thompson Grading, an excavation and grading company. He was working on the trench when it collapsed on top of him, and fellow workers called a rescue team from Haralson County. Both Carroll County and Haralson County emergency management service the area of this tragic accident. Emergency workers from Carroll County removed the body.

Channel 2 Action News reported seeing trench boxes, which are used to secure the walls of the hole, at the site. The Georgia Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident. It is likely that the trench boxes were brought in after the worker was buried, to be able to dig him out. The images show that the soil was extremely dry and sandy, making it a likely candidate for wall collapse unless it is properly shored. I am sure Thompson Grading will pay dearly for this tragic death of the poor worker.

The incident occurred near Jake Bumcombe Road in Waco, in west Georgia.
