WHITTIER, Calif. (KABC) -- All lanes on a stretch of the northbound 605 Freeway in Whittier were shut down after one person was killed in a fiery hit-and-run crash early Monday morning.

Authorities received a call shortly before 2 a.m. on reports of a car crash on the freeway near Slauson Avenue. The caller told California Highway Patrol officers that a black Chevrolet Camaro was driving recklessly and weaving in and out of traffic.

A man was killed, but three people were pulled to safety by firefighters. The driver of the Camaro fled the scene and no description of the person was available.

A SigAlert was issued for the closure of all lanes on the northbound side of the 605 Freeway between Slauson Avenue and Telegraph Road near Santa Fe Springs. The lanes were expected to be closed until 5:30 a.m.

The cause of the crash was unknown and under investigation.
