HARRIS COUNTY, TX (KTRK) -- A woman is dead after a crash involving a suspected drunk driver in northwest Harris County.

The wreck happened just after midnight, according to investigators.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office says a man driving in an Infinity at a high rate of speed collided with a woman as she was trying to make a turn on Veterans Memorial at West Road.

The man allegedly ran a red light and then plowed into the woman's Honda. Sadly, she died at the scene.

The driver of the Infinity was rushed to a hospital, and investigators say he was conscious and talking during the ambulance ride.

Deputies who assessed him at the hospital say he was intoxicated. He now faces a charge of intoxication manslaughter after this deadly crash.

Investigators say the speed limit at that intersection is 45 miles per hour, and the driver was traveling well in excess of that limit based on how far the vehicles were pushed.
