An electrical fire that likely started in a sporting goods store in College View turned into a four-alarm call but was under control about an hour after it was reported Thursday morning.

Lincoln Fire and Rescue crews responded to The Locker Room at 47th and Prescott streets about 7:30 a.m. after a fire started on the back wall of the store.

By the time all four alarms sounded, crews had gone into PURE Organic Skin and Waxing, Hot Spot tanning salon and Edward Jones Investments, as well as the Locker Room. The businesses all suffered smoke and water damage, Battalion Chief Jeremy Gegg said.

"We had some difficulty getting inside the structure due to the amount of heat and smoke inside," he said of the Locker Room.

Firefighters had to cut holes into the roof to let out some heat and smoke out.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. But it appears that an electric short at a sporting goods store is where it started.

None of the businesses was occupied and no firefighters were injured, Gegg said.

The businesses remained closed Thursday afternoon, and a woman who answered a phone for them couldn't say when they'd reopen.
