ROCKFORD, Ill. (WLS) -- A house fire early Saturday in Rockford in northern Illinois killed three children and one adult, fire officials told WTVO-TV.

At about 5 a.m., firefighters arrived at the burning home in the 2800-block of Garfield Avenue.

Neighbors told firefighters that people were trapped inside the house, however, firefighters were unable to reach them in time.

The names and ages of the victims were not immediately released.

The cause of the fire was under investigation Saturday evening.
