FULLERTON, Calif. (KABC) -- One person was killed and several others were hospitalized after a possible DUI crash in Fullerton early Sunday.

Fullerton police responded to the scene at about 2:30 a.m. in the 700 block of S. Lemon Street, authorities from Fullerton PD said.

A black Honda Civic went over a median, through a bush and slammed head-on into a black Lincoln Navigator, according to police.

Authorities said all four passengers in the Civic were transported to area hospitals in critical condition. One of the passengers was later pronounced dead. The solo-occupant in the Navigator remained at the scene.

Authorities said it appears both drivers were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Lincoln was initially taken into custody on suspicion of drunk driving but was later released pending further investigation, police said.

A portion of Lemon Street was temporarily shut down as authorities investigated the scene.
