Male driver injured after he tried to beat the train and was hit by a westbound Union Pacific train in Luling, Texas




 

Police: Man ignored road signs before train collision

LULING, TEXAS - A man is in the hospital recovering from injuries he sustained in a vehicle versus train collision in Luling Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Luling Police Department, Johnny Lee Ussery, 63, was driving west on Davis Street when he allegedly ignored a marked ungated railroad crossing and was hit by a westbound Union Pacific train at the Pierce Street intersection.

Ussery was airlifted to University Medical Center at Brackenridge, and is expected to make a full recovery.

This incident is under investigation by the Luling Police Department and Union Pacific Railroad Police.

LULING, Texas (KXAN) — A 62-year-old man was injured Tuesday afternoon when his truck crashed with a train in downtown Luling.

The Caldwell County Office of Emergency Management said many roads were blocked following the crash in the 400 block of W. Davis Street. Police were called at 12:52 p.m.

The man was taken by medical helicopter out of Seguin to University Medical Center Brackenridge in Austin with non-life threatening injuries to his head.

The Luling police chief said the man was trying to beat a Union Pacific train before it crossed the track when he was hit by the train. The man was the only person in the truck.
