Former asst. fire chief charged with insurance fraud

A former assistant fire chief in Lawrence County will go to court in November on an insurance fraud charge.

Charles Wayne Lash, 45, is accused of filing false papers and a false insurance claim. Lash is a former assistant chief of the Red Bank Fire Department in Lawrence County, according to the Alabama Department of Insurance. He currently lives in Byhalla, Miss., according to court records.

Lash is accused of filing a false $26,000 claim for a 2003 Ford F-350 truck that burned under suspicious circumstances, the Department of Insurance said.

Lash was arrested May 28 and posted a $5,000 bond. He has pleaded not guilty.

Lash has a Nov. 1 court date.
