Three Delaware firefighters were hurt fighting a blaze at an Edgemoor manufacturing plant Thursday afternoon, fire officials said.

Flames broke out around 1 p.m. at the IKO Global facility along the 100 block of Hay Road. The plant makes roofing shingles.

The fire began in a warehouse holding supplies for the manufacturing process, the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office said.

Brandywine Hundreds Fire Company Chief Tom Finocchiaro told NBC10’s Tim Furlong that one firefighter suffered smoke inhalation and two were overcome with heat exhaustion.

All three were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Their conditions were not immediately known.

The fire marshal said the fire began when welders were working on pipes in the building. The fire was ruled accidental. Damage is extensive and could run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars, the fire marshal said.
