Cruise ship CARNIVAL VISTA wreaked a havoc on Messina Marina, Sicily, in the afternoon Aug 28, when leaving the port, reported Cruise Law News.

Giant ship moved too close to Marina basin, creating big waves, which hit Marina’s piers and docked boats. It is not clear yet if there was a pilot on board, though understood it’s a must.

Either it was negligence or miscalculation of those in command on the bridge, or some mechanical/electronic failure – local media said, that the ship for some time looked like she’s not under control, and may hit the piers.

An Italian newspaper says that that there was reportedly 250,000 euros in damage caused by the Carnival ship due to "two piers destroyed, one beyond repair, a number of ancillary facilities (such as anchor lines of the boats) damaged, a pilot of the mooring sunk and another dozen small boats in poor condition."
