TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif. (KABC) -- A deadly fighter jet crash during a training mission near Twentynine Palms left one U.S. Marine pilot dead Thursday night.

The crash happened during a training mission around 10:30 p.m., according to a press release issued by the Marine Corps Public Affairs Office Friday.

The FA-18C Hornet was part of the Third Marine Aircraft Wing, based out of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.

The pilot's name was not immediately released, and the cause of the crash was under investigation.
