ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WKBW) - An Erie County Sheriff's Deputy could spend a year in jail after pleading guilty to insurance fraud.

According to the Erie County District Attorney's Office, 43-year-old Keith Capodicasa crashed his vehicle into another car, then reported it stolen back in June of 2015.

Investigators say after 30 days, Capodicasa received a check for more than $21,000 from his insurance company payable to the lease company. Two days later, prosecutors say, his original car turned up in the Buffalo City Court parking ramp with a ticket stamped with the date of June 9, 2015.

Capodicasa is now on administrative leave without pay, pending an internal investigation.

Prosecutors say Capodicasa has made full restitution. The Orchard Park man faces up to a year in jail when he's sentenced on August 11.
