Four people were killed in a horrific two-vehicle crash in Yaphank late Monday, Suffolk County police said.

A police spokeswoman said she had few details about the 10:46 p.m. crash on Yaphank Middle Island Road, but a baby and one adult survived from one of the vehicles.

The baby was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, she said.

The other survivor had serious injuries and was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in Patchogue, she said.

Police said a driver in a pickup truck was traveling south on the road and lost control, striking another vehicle that was driving north.

The driver of the pickup, the lone occupant, died, police said.

Three of four adults in the other vehicle also died; the baby and the other adult also were in that vehicle, she said.
