BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Four firefighters were hurt putting out a fire this morning in a large building in the city’s Lovejoy neighborhood.

According to Buffalo Fire Dispatch, the 4 injured firefighters sustained minor injuries. No further details were given.

BFD Fire Commissioner Garnell Whitfield told News 4 that one firefighter was taken to ECMC for observation after a shoulder injury.

Dispatchers were called around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday for the fire at the corner of East Lovejoy and Davey Streets.

A neighbor says a cop that happened to drive by the building noticed the flames and called for help. The neighbor says there was no 911 call.

They announced a second alarm within minutes of the initial response.

The fire spread from the vacant building, and caught the next door home on fire.

Two people inside of the home were able to escape on their own with no injuries. Their home is inhabitable due to water damage.

The fire forced the closure of East Lovejoy between North Ogden and Gold Streets. The streets were reopened around 7am Tuesday morning.

No word yet on the cause, or the full extent of damage.
