Explosion and Fire at River Metals Recycling in Greensburg, Indiana

323 S Monfort St, Greensburg, IN 47240

A small fire and explosion occurred late Monday morning at River Metals Recycling on South Monfort St.

Greensburg Fire Department was dispatched to the area and quickly put the fire out. According to the investigator, Greensburg Fireman Randy Hoeing, the fire was believed to have begun when a forklift was stacking car bodies across the street from the main office.

Hoeing stated that they believe a spark caused a combustion when it possibly hit a gas tank. A fire truck was already to the area for training but the ladder truck was also called out to assist with the fire. There were no injuries from the fire.
