Construction worker dies after 40-feet fall from Holiday Inn in Wixom, MI

WIXOM, MI


A construction worker has died after falling 40 feet from the top of a Holiday Inn hotel in Wixom.

Police identified the man as 58-year-old Steven Sanborn of Davison.

Wixom police say the fall Monday afternoon appears to have been accidental.

Sanborn was taken to Providence Park Hospital in Novi and later pronounced dead.


Police, the Oakland County medical examiner’s office and the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the incident.

The building is under construction.  Sanborn's co-workers described him as an “outstanding man,” according to Wixom police.

A worker died in Wixom Monday afternoon after falling nearly 40-feet from a building at a construction site at Holiday Inn Express.

He's been identified as 58-year-old Steven Sanborn of Davison. The fall is believed to have been accidental, witnesses told investigators.

Wixom fire and Huron Valley Ambulance medics treated Sanborn at the scene. He later died at Providence Park Hospital in Novi.

Police and fire officials say the man fell from a new hotel that is under construction at 49025 Alpha Drive in Wixom, Police Lt. Ron Moore said.

An autopsy is expected to be completed Tuesday and the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
