HANOVER, N.H. —Hanover firefighters battled a two-alarm fire on the campus of Dartmouth College Saturday morning.

The fire started just after 6 a.m. in a four-story building that has classrooms and housing for graduate students, officials said.

When crews arrived on scene, heavy smoke was coming a large classroom in the basement, creating zero-visibility conditions, officers said.

Crews located the fire in an audio/visual room attached to the classroom and extinguished the flames, officers said.

The building was searched for occupants and ventilated. No injuries were reported.

Officials said the residential portion of the building can be reopened, but the classroom and hallway areas will need repair.

The cause of the fire was accidental and involved electrical equipment, officers said.

Several area fire departments assisted the Hannover Fire Department, including Hartford, Norwich, Lyme, Lebanon, Thetford, and Upper Valley Ambulance.
