ORANGE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- A pickup truck's tire blowout caused a collision on I-85 southbound in Orange County late Saturday morning.

Highway Patrol said it happened just before 11 a.m. near exit 161. The tire blew out on the back driver's side of a 1996 white GMC pickup. The driver lost control, struck the median barrier, and crossed traffic, striking a 2004 Nissan passenger car.

The pickup overturned and came to rest on the shoulder. The pickup's two occupants were taken to Duke Hospital. Troopers did not release their conditions, but did say the driver and passenger were conscious and alert at the scene.

The driver of the Nissan was not injured, authorities said.

Troopers believe speed was a factor in the wreck. No charges have been filed, but the investigation is ongoing.
