Worker who fell off West Seattle Bridge when lift vehicle hit by truck dies

SEATTLE, WA —

A worker who fell off the lower West Seattle Bridge when the lift vehicle he was in was hit by a truck has died.

The crash happened shortly before 8 a.m. Friday.

Police said two contractors were in an elevated basket when the man lift they were in was hit by a box truck, causing one worker to fall 60 feet to the street below. That worker later died at Harborview Medical Center.

The second worker was saved by a harness and has minor injuries. That worker is being evaluated at Harborview.

The driver of the box truck could face charges.

Seattle police and the Occupational Safety Health Administration are investigating.

The on-ramp to Admiral Way off the West Seattle Bridge is shut down. Drivers should avoid the area.
