FALL RIVER, Mass. —

State Police are investigating a deadly crash on Route 24 in Fall River.

The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. in the area of I-195.

The teen killed was Durfee High School senior Hanna Raposo, according to the Bristol County District Attorney.

State Police told FOX25 Raposo was driving the vehicle when it crashed and rolled several times.

A male passenger in the vehicle was also taken to Rhode Island Hospital.

School officials say the two teens were headed to the prom at the time of the crash and announced Raposo's death to the students at the prom.

"[It was] sad. You could feel everybody, just, sad; the emotion of everybody. The whole room was silent cause they said it over the loud speaker," a student said after the dance. "They stopped the music and they told everybody and you could hear everybody that was close to her. And she was, everybody was dead silent. You just, it was a feeling that you can't even explain."

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and students of the young lady who lost her life tonight. I know our community will come together with love and support and I will do whatever I can to help those who are devastated by this very sad news tonight. Our school system will have counselor available for students and we will continue to gather information. I ask that you please respect the privacy of the family and our students at this time,” Fall River Mayor Robert Correia said.
